Rescued Hearts of the Civil War

Not all prisons have iron bars. Some require more than human strength to remove.

In Rescuing Rose, Union officer Noah Griffin discovers strong Southern women who demonstrate courage and resilience in the face of danger. They show him that the bonds of sisterhood and true Christian charity transcend color and culture.

Shattered dreams defy human efforts to restore them. Learning to trust again is risky.

The South was no cohesive unit by any means. In every state, pockets of Union supporters could be vocal about their loyalties or wisely keep it to themselves. Most of the men who joined the Confederacy did so for reasons other than the preservation of slavery, whether states’ rights, regional pride, or simply because it was expected. In Loving Lydia, Seth Morgan joins so he can find his wife’s killer.

In a time of war, love has to fight for a happily-ever-after, especially with secrets coming to light.

War twists everyday expectations out of whack. Hurried marriages took place as well as some not-so socially acceptable liaisons. Many times, women were left to deal with the fallout of those.

When a stranger claims to be her fiance, the fight to save her land turns into a battle for her heart.

After the Civil War, Southern men who’d fought for the Union returned home to an uncertain reception. Only two percent of the population had owned slaves, and it was only a matter of time before that system would disintegrate. War and reconstruction, unfortunately, did nothing to bring healing to a nation deeply divided.

Rupert is ready to live as a bachelor…until Hannah shows up at his door and upsets all his plans.

Reconstruction efforts differed widely from the projected results across the South and many times brought another round of mistreatment. The opportunities for corruption abounded, and often innocent victims paid the price.

Why Historical Fiction? Why Christian Historical Romance?

If you’re interested in reading a fictional account about a true event during the Civil War, these are the books for you. Did you know that women were arrested during the war simply for staying on their jobs at the cotton mills? Several hundred uneducated women were arrested and sent far from their homes by train. Women from Roswell, Georgia and Campbell County ended up in Louisville, Kentucky and southern Indiana without any means of livelihood.

Historical fiction endures as an instructional guide for the present and future generations. It points us to things that really matter, such as family, respect for others, loyalty, and reverence for God. Historical literature is a magnifying glass to help humanity correct its course, challenging us to do better and be more than we have in the past.
Christian fiction has soared in the last decade, with the accessibility of independent publishing.
Romance is the most widely read genre of this century so far, and readers love happy endings.

A GIFT OF GRATITUDE is the third edition in The Community Book Project series, where people come together to write and submit essays on a particular theme. In a weekend. The gifts of gratitude described inside include the subjects of children, pets, nature, travel and, in one case, mushrooms. We also list our favorite causes we support. And we are pleased to share the results with you in this book celebrating gratitude: the inspirational essays, narratives and insights from 100 contributors. The intention of this book is to empower and uplift you, too, to notice what’s around you and give appreciation.Thank you for reading—and celebrating—gratitude!

Can you hear it? Life often gets in the way of us hearing it—the roar of doubt, fear, and despair drown out the still small voice. But if we tune our ear to hear, it is there. Whispers of grace come to us when we lend our ear to the movements of God in our struggles, in our everyday lives, and in our hearts. May these stories, prayers, and poems create in you a desire to listen for the whispers of grace in your own life. Entries were chosen from submissions from writers attending the 2020 Florida Christian Writers Conference.
